IS101 Growth Takes Time

Looking back on this semester, I honestly learned a lot more from IS101 than I expected to. At first I thought it was just going to be a basic computer class, but it ended up teaching me a lot about problem solving, paying attention to details, organization, and being patient when things get frustrating. Some assignments definitely took me longer than expected and there were times where I felt overwhelmed, especially with Excel and some of the formatting projects, but I can tell I improved a lot compared to the beginning of the semester. One thing I appreciated about this course was that most of the assignments felt realistic instead of just random busy work. Learning Excel, mail merge, PowerPoint, online safety, and other computer skills are things I can actually use later in jobs, school, and everyday life. I also feel way more comfortable using Microsoft Office programs now than I did before this class started. I think the class pushed everyone to work more independently and figure ...

Phase 2 Reflection

Phase 2 honestly challenged me a lot more than I expected, especially with Excel and learning all the different formulas and functions. At first some of the assignments were really confusing and frustrating, but after practicing more and asking questions when I needed help, I started understanding things better and became more confident using Excel. The A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer assignment was probably one of the harder assignments for me because there were a lot of details and steps to pay attention to, but it also helped me realize how useful Excel can actually be in real situations. I also learned a lot from the URL Components and Social Engineering section because it made me more aware of online safety and how easy it can be for people to get tricked by fake links or scams. I definitely pay more attention now before clicking links or giving information online. These are things that are honestly important outside of school too, especially because technology is involved in...

Completing phase one of IS101

I think I did well overall in phase one of IS101–3003, but I could’ve kept up more consistently with my lab Sims. And future phases, I plan to prioritize my study time better, stay ahead on assignments, and focus more on reviewing and learning from the bonus quizzes to strengthen my understanding. I realized how easily it is to fall behind. I chose 4.3.6 Font Tips because I think understanding fonts is important for creating professional and visually appealing documents. To prepare for the upcoming MO-110 Word certification exam, I am going to practice my lab Sims more consistently and review key concepts so I feel confident using all the tools in word. Overall, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, and as someone who balances a busy schedule, I’m learning how important time management and consistency are to reaching my goals.

IS101: Learning Digital Skills

Hello everyone, my name is Brittney, and welcome to my blog. I’m a current student at the College of Southern Nevada studying my Associate of Science, and I’m excited to share my journey as a student throughout this semester. One of the classes I am currently taking is IS101-3005. You will watch me become more confident using technology and overall improving my technical skills. My first impression of IS101 has been a positive experience so far. The class seems very straight forward and organized. This course will be very beneficial especially for students who want to build stronger computer and digital skills, and I’m glad to be taking a course that teaches skills I can actually use outside of the classroom. In Discussion 2 Part 2, I chose to focus on improving my ability to use attachments and hyperlinks. One activity that helped me was LabSim 1.3.11 Attachments and Hyperlinks. This lesson helped me understand how to correctly attach files and include links in a professional way, whi...
